Suffering Hardships? Then Pray

Acts 2:42
"All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching,
and to fellowship,
and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper),
and to prayer."

I 'send out' prayer requests nearly every day, knowing that those to whom I send them have made it known that they want to pray for others. What they may not know is that, before I  hit the 'send' key, I pray for each of those to whom I'm sending the requests.

1 Timothy 2:1
"I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them;
intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them."

We all need prayer at one time or another (really, we all need prayer ALL the time).  It's very hard for me to pray for myself, although I know it's Biblical to do so, and I believe that's said by Jesus himself (and gosh, if JESUS did it, shouldn't we be able to, too?) - "He went on a little farther and bowed with His face to the ground, praying, 'My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want Your will to be done, not Mine'.” (Matthew 26:39)  Other scriptures about praying for oneself are:

Mark 14:38
"Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation.
For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak.”

                                                                                Luke 22:40
"There He told them, 'Pray that you will not give in to temptation'.”

Philippians 4:6
"Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything.
Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done."

James 5:13
"Are any of you suffering hardships? You should pray.
Are any of you happy? You should sing praises."

For the past several weeks, I've been carrying around the burden of guilt - not about something particular I've done, but
what I'm not able to do.  Through prayers and the sincere, knowledgeable wisdom of a couple of friends, I've laid that burden down - and turned it over to the Lord.  I've been known throughout my life as one, which Ronnie says, would like to 'fix' the world's problems, and especially the woes and issues of dear family and friends about whom I deeply care.  Maybe that's why I pray so fervently for others, and I definitely do pray for you all.  Hope and pray that you all have a wonderful day. Jude 1:20
"But you, dear friends, must build each other up in your most holy faith,
pray in the power of the Holy Spirit"

1 Thessalonians 5:17
                                                                      "Never stop praying."

"Prayer is the central avenue God uses to transform us."

The welcome of the Father's arms be yours.

The welcome of the Savior's heart be yours.

The welcome of the Spirit's call be yours.

Deep peace of this earth to you.

Deep peace of this sky to you.

Deep peace of this place to you.

The kindly eye of the Trinity be upon you

To aid and guard you,

To cherish and enrich you.

May God take you in the clasp of His own two hands.

Amen.

The following is an excerpt from a devotional, "Becoming Refreshed and Renewed" written by Pastor Karen Schatzline,
from our church.

Ephesians 4:23-24: "There must be a spiritual renewal of your thoughts and attitudes. You must display a new nature because you are a new person, created in God's likeness - righteous, holy, and true."

Most of you don't think of yourselves as Super Heroes, but when you look at what you take on and the pace of your lives, maybe you should. When you're carrying a full load, flying from one thing to another, it's hard to put the load down.

Sometimes, it can even feel impossible. The weight of that load then leads to other things that simply add to the burden...not enough rest, too much coffee, too many fast food meals, too many nights of working an extra hour or two to get ready for the next day. When and how do you get a much needed break?

Put away the cape with the big red 'S' that you probably embroidered yourself, and look inside yourself and be very, very still. When you accepted Christ into your life, your aim was to become more like Him and to have more of Him in your day-to-day tasks.

Maybe instead of Super Hero, that big red 'S' should stand for 'Savior' and you should give the cape to the one who really can take care of you. Jesus offered you the chance to give Him your burdens. Remember, He said "Come to Me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest". (Matthew 11:28)

This week, lay those burdens down and give yourself a chance to be renewed and refreshed in Him. Your real Hero is ready to help you.

Prayer: Lord, be with me this week. Help me to give up some of the weight that I carry, some of the burdens of my heart and lay them at Your feet. Help me to renew myself in You. Amen.
