Cougar
Read 1 Peter 5:6-9

This seems to be the year for cougars in Colorado. If you don't know what a cougar is, they are sometimes referred to as puma, mountain lion, catamount, panther, or big cat. In the mountain area we live in there have been numerous sightings of these 100 pound plus predators where we don't normally see them. Additionally several dogs have been attacked, including one inside
someone's house not long ago!

Recently we drove into our driveway to find one leaving our property. That served to wake me back up from the minor stupor I had fallen into while driving home the 30 minutes prior! Dog and other area pets all seem to be okay. But I was reminded of how wild an area we live in.

Peter the Apostle wrote, "Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour" (1 Peter 5:8). Our visiting lion was doing just that, looking for something to devour! It was in the dark and nearly silently moving about, undetected had it not been for my headlights. Peter's remedy for the spiritual lion is the same we use for the Rocky Mountain cougar. Pay attention, control when and where you go by yourself. Shine the light of God's Word on what he is doing.

Want to be the most effective against falling prey to your enemy the devil? Be aware he's out there, prepare yourself with the Word of God, practice Spirit-led self control, and be alert!"
